Purple Monochromatic Nails (Very Picture Heavy)

Hello again, lacqueristas! Today I've got my entry for Polish Art Addiction's Monochrome Contest!

The point of the contest is to use different shades within one color family, so of course I chose purple! However, the sun didn't want to play nice today in good ol' SC and has given me really bad shots. And I used a Del Sol color-changing polish that changes in the sun (from red to purple), but the sun didn't want to come out to play! Therefore, I've got an entry that might end up getting disqualified because of the sun, that jerk!

BOOM! PURPLE! (mostly)

Nail Polish Breakdown:
1 coat Orly Bonder
2 coats Zoya - Dannii
1 coat Poshe fast-drying topcoat
Colors sponged on with saran wrap:
  • Sinful Colors - Fig
  • Jesse's Girl - Blue Moon
  • Milani - Hi-Res
  • Del Sol - Heartbreaker (which may get me disqualified - BLARG!)
Border: Julep - Viola
2 coats Poshe fast-drying topcoat

So we'll see how it turns out. :) Regardless of whether or not it gets disqualified, I still had a fun time trying out saran wrap *and* border nails for the first time! Yay experiments!

MOAR PICTURES!

**I hope to update this post tomorrow with pics in the sun, if it comes out.**

***SAME DAY UPDATE - WOOHOO!***
Good news, everyone! The sun came out (while it was raining), and gave me a nice double rainbow and some awesome sun for the pictures, although it still didn't change the Del Sol very much. Ah, well. Here are the pics in the sun!

Much better in the sun!

Looks a bit like galaxy nails, eh? Or my background!

The rainbow is above my index finger, to the right of my middle finger! It was so big and beautiful while I was driving around, but I didn't get a good picture of it once I got home. Still awesome though!

It was still sprinkling when I took these. See the rainwater on my ring finger?

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color - Red-y Response

Greetings, lacqueristas! Today I'm showing you Sally Hansen - Red-y Response that I received from Influenster for review!

Red-y Response is a beautiful red-toned purple magnetic polish from Sally Hansen's Magnetic Nail Color series. The cap with the magnet is removable, which was very useful when I was putting this on. It has a wavy pattern like the cap shows. And this magnet is clearly strong enough to make the pattern show up! I'll have to use it on my magnetic Nabi to see if the magnet was the problem with that polish.

And a little bit of product information for you!

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color
NEW! Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color is summer's hottest nail trend that allows you to create a gorgeous 3-D nail art effect in just seconds. This unique formula has been specially developed with magnetic particles - just hold the built-in magnet over wet polish to reveal a unique design on the nail. Seal with a topcoat for extra shine! Learn more at www.sallyhansen.com

Easy Steps
STEP 1
Shake and Apply 2 coats
STEP 2
Hold Magnet for 10 seconds over wet nail polish
Instant Attraction!
Let dry and seal with a top coat for extra shine

Where to Buy: Available at chain drug stores, food stores and mass merchandisers nationally. Suggested retail price: $9.99.

Because my nails are pretty curved, the magnetic pattern doesn't appear on my entire nail, but I think it's totally fine because of the awesome effect it has on most of the nail. I seriously could not look away from this polish! Both the color and the pattern are lovely!

I really loved this color. If you know me, then you know purple is my favorite color. However, I've always liked blue-toned purples more than red-toned ones like this one, but I think Red-y Response has changed my mind. The wine color of this polish looks amazing with my skin tone! And now I am even more in love with my favorite color because of my new-found appreciation of it! Yay purples!

Disclaimer: I received this product complimentary to test and review through the Influenster VoxBox program.

Penguin Makeup Challenge - Black and White

Hey lacqueristas! Today's post is something a little different from the regular nail polish posts I do. PENGUINS! I saw this challenge on Glitter Obsession called the Penguin Makeup Challenge that sounded fun.

What I discovered from the very first post is that I have really crappy lighting conditions for photographing makeup. That or I really need to play with my camera settings, but as far as I played tonight, I didn't really get anything better than this. The bathroom lighting just makes all of my pictures have a reddish hue to them and using flash washes everything out. Bah.

I altered the pictures below so they would at least look decent. (I don't alter my nail pictures aside from cropping them.)

Makeup used for this look:
Jordana - Perfect Team black and white shadows
Wet n Wild - Spoiled Brat black shadow
Markwins - unnamed cream shadow (came in a large makeup pack, only labeled Markwins on back)
Kiss Luxury Eye Liner - Classic Black
Kiss i-ENVY mascara - Very Black

I was inspired for this look by the Illamasqua SOPHIE-I technique that they have on their site.

This is definitely not something I would wear for going out all the time unless I got used to the really dramatic eye looks. Because I wear glasses, I generally just swipe a single color on my lids and use mascara and eye liner for any makeup I'm doing. But this was definitely fun to do - as you may know from some of my older posts, I took a theater makeup class while I was in college and really enjoyed it. This was a nice little throwback for me doing something really dramatic.

Also, my eyebrows look crazy. They're one of the things I wish that I could change most about my face. I'm just not that good at shaping them myself. :/

I hope you enjoyed this little experiment in makeup!

And here are the other ladies' makeup looks for today!
